In a nutshell, what is PointSync Professional?

PointSync Professional is a mobile enterprise application platform (MEAP for the acronym crowd) software that resides within an organization's infrastructure (behind the firewall) that provides data movement, third party database/system integration, light device management and IT/helpdesk tools to complete a mobile application deployment.

Does PointSync Professional include an user interface for configuration, etc?

Yep. PointSync Professional includes PointSync Manager, the main interface for managing the system. Within Manager, administrators can control users, devices, licensing, sync rules, data management, server-to-server sync, remote databases and more. Also included is PointSync System Controller, which is an interface to more behind the scenes information such as server name, port, status, database paths, database log, sync log and more.

What kind of hardware does PointSync Professional need to run on?

PointSync Professional is a Windows-based software that runs on Windows 2003 & 2008 Servers. It can also run for testing purposes on Windows XP and Windows 7 systems.

What mobile platforms can I run with PointSync Professional?

Good news! You can choose any combination of iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android, Windows Mobile (sorry, no Windows Phone) and BlackBerry devices.  This include both smartphones, tablets and ruggedized devices.

Most of my data is already in a well-established database. Can PointSync Pro integrate with it?

Abosolutely! One of the most used features of PointSync Professional is its strong connectivity to existing databases. In this case, PointSync sits between your database and mobile devices to monitor and manage the requests to read and write data safely.

PointSync Pro integrates with the most common enterprise databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, SQL Anywhere, IBM DB2, MS Access and other ODBC compliant databases

Can PointSync Professional work with data in CRM, ERP, QuickBooks or and industry specific program?

PointSync Professional can integrate with most systems because they are based on a database structure. We have worked with QuickBooks and other common products like Microsoft Dynamics and Maximo, so your industry specific package would more than likely work, but we would need to perform some discovery with you to make 100% sure.

My company already has a mobile app. How can PointSync Pro help us?

If you've already built a mobile app, but need a robust mobile platform to provide data management, back-end integration and other functions, PointSync Pro could be a great fit. We would need to get some details about your mobile app to determine the best plan to move forward with it.  Contact Us

What management features are built into PointSync Pro to help support my mobile users?

That's a great question!  Your helpdesk and IT people will be happy to support mobile devices using PointSync Pro! Built into the Manager interface are features like Sync Logs, Audits, Reports, File Deploy/Update and more. Third party tools like Afaria can also be used to supplement the support features in PointSync.

How does PointSync Professional compare to Web Services?

There are a couple ways PointSync outperforms web services for mobile solutions...  First, mobile apps based on web services MAY require an internet connection to run, and WILL require a connection to save/send the collected data. PointSync apps use a local database and will always operate regardless of the connection status.

Second, solutions based on web services will require additional coding if changes to the synchronizing tables or fields needs to be reconfigured. PointSync, via PointSync Manager contains an interface with checkboxes to reconfigure within minutes, with no extra coding.

What makes PointSync Professional so good at data synchronization?

PointSync Professional contains some special features that stop problems that most people don't consider when deploying mobile apps.

Data Rollback - What would happen to a synchronization that got cut off halfway through the process? When PointSync Pro encounters a sync that is not closed properly, it rolls back the transmission to prevent partial data from being inserted into the database.

CheckPoint Restart - You've just performed 6 home inspections on your device, While sending them in, your connection is lost and your transmission is interrupted. With PointSync Pro, your next sync will start where the last one left off, potentially saving time, money and frustration.

ID Pooling - PointSync also includes a handy tool to prevent mobile devices from creating duplicate unique record ID's in the field. Using ID Pooling, PointSync allocates and distributes unique ID's to each device. When the device uses it's allotment of ID's, PointSync sends more.
