PointSync 4.0 to PointSync Pro 2.0 Notes - 2007

In 2007, PointSync 4.0 became the final version in that product line. It was replaced with PointSync Professional 2.0. If you're still using PointSync 4.0 or earlier, the reasons for making this change were important as we thought about the product and our customers into the future.

WHY UPGRADE to POINTSYNC PROFESSIONAL...

The primary reason to migrate to PointSync Professional 2.0 is that as of January 31, 2010 Sybase has discontinued support of SQL Anywhere version 9.0.x.  As PointSync 4.x is built on version 9.0.2.3487, and Sybase will no longer be providing fixes, PointSync has discontinued formal support of PointSync 4.x.  In the event that a client should choose to remain on the PointSync 4.x platform, we will attempt to provide support on critical bugs, without guarantee, by working around issues.  We recommend eliminating the risks associated with remaining on PointSync 4.x by urging our clients to migrate to PointSync Professional 2.0 as soon as is practical. Below is the major list of changes between PointSync & PointSync Professional:

  • The PointSync Professional 2.0 platform is successfully installed at multiple client sites supporting heavy traffic in terms of both volume of data and frequency of synchronization.
  • The Ultralite database, which resides on the device, exhibits greatly improved stability and performance.
  • PS Mobile device runtime environment boasts enhanced features and performance.
  • Device synchronization is more robust.
  • Improved synchronization profile management at the server for better organization and superior understanding of synchronization rules.
  • An improved synchronization handler better services heavily concurrent environments.
  • The new device runtime supports current PointSync mobile applications.
  • Synchronization (initial sync, reset and sync) can be integrated within the mobile application, rather than through a separate synchronization client.
  • Optional end-to-end encrypted communication is available.
  • Supports high-availability utilizing mirrored databases.
  • PointSync is committed to supporting and expanding PointSync Professional 2.0 to scale further and support our clients on multiple device platforms.
